Lorenz-von-Stein Prize and Bojanovsky Award for Oliver Rittmann

Dr. Oliver Rittmann has been awarded this year's dissertation prize from the Prof. Dr. Anna and Prof. Dr. Jörg Jiri Bojanovsky Foundation as well as the prestigious Lorenz-von-Stein Prize for his dissertation titled „Video-as-Data for the Study of Parliamentary Speech: Methodology and Application“.

Dr. Oliver Rittmann, who completed his doctorate under the supervision of Prof. Thomas Gschwend at the Chair of Political Science and currently holds a Lorenz-von-Stein Research Fellow­ship at the MZES, has been awarded both the prestigious Lorenz-von-Stein Prize and the Bojanovsky Dissertation Award.His research uses computer-assisted video and audio analysis to examine the role of nonverbal communication in parliamentary debates. Among other findings, he shows that female members of parliament receive less attention during their speeches than male colleagues. His work provides important insights into political representation and discrimination.
