CDSE Student Thibault Cézanne awarded with SUERF/UniCredit Foundation Research Prize

Thibault Cézanne, doctoral candidate at the CDSE and ZEW researcher, was awarded the 11th SUERF I UniCredit Foundation Research Prize for his contribution in the workshop 'AI in Banking and Finance'. Alongside Dr. Frank Brueckbauer (ZEW), he co-authored the paper “Bank Manager Sentiment, Excessive Loan Growth and Under-Estimated Risk”.

This prestigious award, jointly presented by SUERF – The European Money and Finance Forum and the UniCredit Foundation, recognizes and promotes outstanding academic work by early career researchers in the fields of monetary policy, financial stability, and banking.

Thibault’s research focuses on the areas of monetary policy, macroprudential policies, financial intermediation and green finance. In his paper, Thibault uses AI algorithms to estimate bank managers' sentiment and offers valuable insights into how bank managers' sentiments can drive excessive loan growth and lead to underestimated risk. This can also inform AI systems in banking by enhancing their ability to predict and manage financial risks based on behavioral insights and sentiment analysis.
