Uni-Fest at the University of Mannheim on 6 September

On 6 September, the University of Mannheim invites the public to the Uni-Fest – a new format blending science, music, and partying to mark the beginning of the new semester. Under the theme “Celebrate. Research. Together.”, guests can expect a diverse program featuring scientific talks and presentations, hands-on activities, a party at the Schneckenhof, and culinary delights in the Ostflügel of the Schloss.

This year, the Uni-Fest replaces the Schlossfest, which has been suspended for financial reasons. With this new, more compact format, the University of Mannheim aims to continue an exchange with the citizens of Mannheim and to make current research more accessible. Citizens from Mannheim and the surrounding regions as well as students, employees, friends, and partners of the University are very welcome to celebrate with us.

The doors open at 4 p.m., the program starts at 4:30 p.m. The Uni-Fest is free of charge – only the ticket for the Schneckenhof party costs EUR 8.

You can find further information, the up-to-date program, and tickets at: www.uni-mannheim.de/uni-fest (in German)

Preliminary program

Hands-on science

The program starts at 4:30 p.m. with the kids’ university: In her lecture for 8 to 12-year-olds, Annika Frank from the Department of German Studies will illustrate how comics tell stories. Also starting at 4:30 p.m., various chairs invite guests to take part in the interactive science program – for example, to test a chatbot in psychological conversations. Starting at 5 p.m., the ExpressWISSEN exchange format gives you the opportunity to discuss topics such as party competition and deepfake in short talks with experts. At the Science Marathon starting at 5:30 p.m., Mannheim professors, including Prof. Dr. Stefanie Schäfer (American Literary and Cultural Studies) and Prof. Dr. Christoph Rothe (Statistics), will hold short keynote speeches. The science program will end with WISSENsdurst, a bar talk with Prof. Dr. Heiko Paulheim from the Chair of Data Science on the topic: “Omniscient and infallible? Risks and side effects of AI.”

Welcome for first-year students

In keeping with tradition, the President of the University of Mannheim, Prof. Dr. Thomas Fetzer, the mayor of the city of Mannheim, Christian Specht, and the chairpersons of the General Student Committee (AStA) welcome all new students at the beginning of the fall semester. The welcome will take place at 8:30 p.m. on the Schneckenhof stage.

Music, exhibitions, lectures and more

Emerging pop and rock bands of the current “Bandsupport” generation will perform at the Uni-Fest. For art lovers, several exhibitions, including paintings from artist Ariane Hagl and pictures from the ABSOLVENTUM photo contest, are presented in the Ostflügel of the Schloss. The archive of the University of Mannheim presents historical photos and videos and invites you to learn more about history at their audio stations. Together with its partners and scholarship holders – including Olympic athletes – the Elite Sports Scholarship Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region invites you to try out different sports and take a look behind the scenes of their program.

You will find various drink and food stands in the Stiler Hof.

The party at the Schneckenhof starts at 9 p.m. and you are welcome to party with us until 3 a.m.
