Application

Bachelor’s program in Sociology

The University of Mannheim does not apply a numerus clausus system (grade-point average for admission to certain programs of study). Instead, we take many different criteria into account in our selection process.

  • What requirements do I need to fulfill in order to apply for admission to the bachelor’s program in Sociology?

Besides being interested in social contexts and analyzing them using statistical methods, you need to be motivated and willing to work independently. In order to apply, you also need to submit the following:

    • Average grade of your university entrance qualification (i.e., Abitur and/or comparable or equivalent qualifications)
    • Final grades in Mathematics and English
    • Certificate of participation in the aptitude test
    • Optional: other achievements relevant to the degree program (e.g., activities in public administration at federal, state or municipal level, public relations work for political parties, journalistic activities in the press and media, voluntary work in interest groups such as trade unions, social, cultural and sporting organizations or church associations)
  • How can I apply for the bachelor's program in Sociology?

The bachelor’s program in Sociology starts in the fall semester.
Please note: this year, you can apply online between 1 June and 15 July at the latest. The Admissions Office will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the application process.

The University of Mannheim participates in the so-called dialog-oriented service procedure (DoSV), which is a new centralized admissions process. Applicants for the first semester must register for the DoSV at www.hochschulstart.de in order to be able to apply to the University of Mannheim.

They can submit up to three (main) applications for the first semester of selective bachelor's programs to the University of Mannheim.

Comprehensive information on the application process and the DoSV procedure is also available in the information brochure for bachelor's programs (PDF). See chapter 3.2.1., in particular.

Important information: international applicants from countries outside of the EU or EAA cannot participate in the DoSV procedure. If you are an international applicant, please apply exclusively via the online application portal of the University of Mannheim.

  • You have applied, now what is next?

Please carefully read the information brochure for applications for admission to a bachelor’s program (PDF) published by the Admissions Office (chapter 3.1.7, in particular). There you can find all relevant information on the application process and the official notifications.
