AI in Higher Education Teaching: Between Innovation and Responsibility

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of higher education teaching. It opens up new possibilities for instruction but also introduces a range of new challenges and responsibilities for teaching staff and universities. The event “Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education Teaching: Between Innovation and Responsibility” on 16 May 2025, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the FUCHS Festsaal (O 138) at the Schloss, addresses this area of tension.

The focus will be on the opportunities and challenges of using Artificial Intelligence in teaching. Whether automated assistance systems or personalized learning offers – AI enables new didactic possibilities. At the same time, the event raises questions about responsibility, limitations, and evolving roles for teaching staff. This controversial field will be examined from multiple angles, and the event will not only feature expert presentations but also provide practical insights: teaching staff will share their own experiences, and the Teaching and Learning Center (ZLL) as well as the University Library (UB) will present their support services. Teaching staff of the University of Mannheim, interested students, and staff working in university didactics, IT, and administration – including those from other universities – are warmly invited to attend.

The event is held in German. The program is available on the ZLL website. Please register no later than 11 May 2025.
