Swapneel Mehta visits the Chair – Talk in the DS 202 Closing Event

Dr. Swapneel Mehta, academic/
“Arbiter is a public observatory for digital discourse built by the team at SimPPL, a nonprofit, focused on rebuilding digital trust. We work with journalists, civil society actors, and UN agencies to support the investigation of digital harms spreading across social networks including X, Meta, Reddit, TikTok, Bluesky, and others. Our work has previously resulted in Meta's adversarial threats takedown, internal investigations into Russian bots by Twitter, been featured by Google, Mozilla, and won several grants from philanthropic funders investing in information integrity. In this talk we will walk through how to develop systems like Arbiter to generate insights from public conversations online in order to rebuild digital trust in online information.”
Afterwards, the student teams of the class DS 202 – Seminar and Lab on Machine Learning and Causal Inference (MMSDS) will present the projects they did during the term. Each group has built a dashboard for a topic of their choice and will be presenting their finished product to the audience and answer questions.
