New postdoctoral researcher at Carey's chair: Meridith LaVelle conducts research on human rights and digital repression

Meridith LaVelle joined the Carey Chair in October 2025 and researches how technological developments can threaten human rights.

Meridith LaVelle, Ph.D., has been working as a postdoctoral researcher in Sabine Carey's department since October 2025. Her research focuses on human rights, political violence and the right to privacy. She concentrates on the question of how technologies are used to violate fundamental rights. In 2023, Sabine Carey was given the opportunity to select international scholars for a Humboldt Fellowship. Following Elena Barham, Meridith LaVelle will now join the team until September 2027.
