Work and organizational psychology studies human experiences and human behavior at work within organizational contexts. More specifically, research focuses on questions of how to design work and organizations so that employees can perform well without compromising their health or attaining into other undesirable consequences. In addition work and organizational psychology strives to identify individual characteristics and behaviors that help to cope well with on-the-job demands.

In their research, Prof. Sonnentag and her team address issues of job stress and daily recovery from job stress as well as self-regulatory approaches to work.
