Prof. Dr. Irena Kogan ist seit Oktober 2009 Inhaberin des Lehrstuhls für Soziologie und Gesellschaftsvergleich an der Universität Mannheim. Sie ist Mitglied der European Academy of Sociology.
Die Forschungsinteressen von Prof. Dr. Kogan liegen in den Bereichen sozialer Ungleichheit, Migration- und Arbeitsmarktsoziologie. Ihre Studien sind vorwiegend komparativ und basieren auf modernen Methoden der quantitativen Sozialforschung und der Datenanalyse.
Prof. Dr. Kogan ist aktuell für den deutschen Teil des Projektes “Children of Immigrants Longitudinal Survey in Four European Countries” mitverantwortlich. Ferner leitet sie ein ERC-Projekt “Partnership Formation in the Context of Refugee Migration” (PARFORM), sowie das Projekt “Upwardly Mobile Through STEM? STEM Competences, Participation and Returns Among Ethnic Minority Women and Men in Germany” (STEMobile), das von Fritz Thyssen Stiftung gefordert wird. Frau Kogan ist aktuell an einem EU Horizon2020 Projekt “Pioneering Policies and Practices Tackling Educational Inequalities in Europe” (PIONEERED) mitbeteiligt.
