  • Profile

Emine Ari is an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Researcher in the Chair of Political Science, International Relations at the University of Mannheim. Previously, she served as a Research Associate and Adjunct Instructor at the University of Arizona and the University of Idaho, and a Visiting pre-doctoral Researcher at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Her research focuses on inter-state and intra-state conflict, political violence, terrorism, and states of emergency. Her scholarly agenda comprises two complementary research streams: one evaluating the dynamics of political violence, and another examining how states of emergency relate to international conflict and cooperation. Her methodological toolkit spans econometrics, causal inference, and geographic information systems (GIS), as well as multinational machine learning applications for text scaling and classification and event-data coding of cooperation and conflict between states and non-state armed groups. She has contributed to large-scale data collection efforts on internationally funded research projects, applying these methods to political violence and conflict dynamics.

Emine's work has appeared in leading journals, including the Journal of Peace Research, Terrorism and Political Violence, and Political Studies Review. Her interdisciplinary approach combines rigorous quantitative analysis of original datasets with (quasi-)experimental designs to address enduring questions in peace and conflict research.
