Bernd Beber serves as an interim professor at the School of Social Sciences and is a visiting researcher at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center and RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research, with previous teaching or research appointments at New York University, Humboldt University of Berlin, and the University of Oxford. His work focuses on topics including violent conflict, migration, and development, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa, causal inference, and survey data. He has served as co-principal investigator for field projects in countries across the continent, including Nigeria, Senegal, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Zambia, and his work has been published in journals such as International Organization, the Journal of Politics, and the Journal of Development Economics.
