Study on the effects of a parity law

Prof. Debus and Dr. Stecker have examined the effects of a parity law on electoral lists. Their study has been received in the quality press.

In the daily newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung, a study has been presented that has been led by Prof. Dr. Debus and PD Dr. Stecker at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research. It aims at scrutinizing the effects of a parity law on the composition of party lists at elections. Overall, the effects of such a parity law in the case of the German Federal Parliament tend to be negligible. The share of women in the Bundestag would only rise by eight percent points at about 39 percent.
