  • Profil

Cosima Meyer is a PhD candidate at the Doctoral Center in Social and Behavioral Science (CDSS) of the Graduate School of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Mannheim and a research associate at the Chair of Political Science, International Relations. Motivated by the continuing recurrence of conflicts in the world, her research interest on conflict studies became increasingly focused on post-civil war stability.

In her dissertation, she analyzes leadership survival – in particular in post-conflict settings. Using a wide range of quantitative methods, she further explores questions on conflict elections, women’s substantive representation as well as autocratic cooperation.

Before starting her Ph.D. at GESS, Cosima obtained her BA and MA in Political Science and Economics from the University of Mannheim and spent terms abroad at the Universitet Uppsala, Sweden, and SciencesPo Paris, France.

In 2019, Cosima received the “Baden-Württemberg Certificate for Teaching and Learning at University Level“ and the 2019 Teaching Award.

Cosima is also a co-founder, co-editor and contributor of MZES Methods Bites, the methods blog of the MZES Social Science Data Lab. It offers a platform for presenting and discussing methods for data collection, management, analysis, and visualization.

Beyond her academic passion, Cosima serves as the chair-woman of the Rationale Altruisten Mannheim e.V. – an association which supports young scholars in the field of social sciences at the University of Mannheim by providing funding for research projects, conferences, and final projects.
