    Santiago López Álvarez is a PhD Candidate in Political Science and Fulbright Scholarship Grantee at Rice University (Houston, USA). Santiago holds an MA in History and Memory Studies from Universidad Nacional de La Plata (Argentina); an MA in Hispanic Literature from West Virginia University (USA); an MA in Political Science from Rice University; and a BSc in Journalism and Communication Studies from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (Colombia). His current research focuses on the intersection of political violence and electoral behavior and preferences. Specifically, how different types and levels of exposure to conflict affect voting patterns and inter-group relations.

    Santiago has worked as an International Cooperation Advisor for several years for different institutions. He also worked at the US Department of State as a Language and Culture Instructor for US Diplomats, and interned at the United Nations – Office of the Secretary General in the Rule of Law Unit.

    He is currently a guest researcher at Prof. Sabine C. Carey's chair for fall 2021 and spring 2022.
