Here are some examples of students supervised by Prof. Carey:

PhD Students

Dr. Anita GAnita_Gohdes_Studienpreisohdes  received her doctoral degree from the University of Mannheim in 2015. For her dissertation she received the “Deutscher Studienpreis 2015”. She is now a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School. In 2016 she received the Dina Zinnes award for the best graduate paper on an SSIP panel at the 2015 ISA Annual Convention.

 

 

Dr. Mascha Rauschenbach received her doctoral degree from the University of Mannheim in 2015. Her paper on vote-buying and voter intimidation in elections in Africa was runner-up for the Dina Zinnes award for the best graduate paper on an SSIP panel at the 2015 ISA Annual Convention.

Dr. David Kiwuwa received his PhD from the University of Nottingham in 2006, for which he was awarded the Lord Bryce Prize by the Political Science Association (UK) for best International Studies/Comparative Politics Dissertation 2005/6.

 

MA Students

Anne Dieterle received the RAM Preis 2015 for the best M.A. dissertation in Social Sciences. She is now working for Stiftung Mercator.

Alexander Kustov  received his MA from the University of Mannheim in 2013. His first article, based on his MA dissertation, is published in Conflict Management and Peace Science, entitled “How ethnic structure affects civil conflict: A model of endogenous grievance”. He is now a PhD student at Princeton University.

Hannah Smidt received her MA from the University of Mannheim in 2012. Her first article, based on her MA dissertation, is published in Journal of Peace Research, entitled “From a perpetrator’s perspective – International election observers and post-electoral violence”.  She is now a PhD student at University College London.
